Welcome

The Community Hall of Yarmouth and District (CHOYD) is available for hire; with a convenient location and fantastic range of facilities and equipment, the Hall is ideal for many activities, celebrations and events.

We host many great parties, performances, wedding receptions, corporate and charity events, meetings, sales, training classes, social evenings, games, exercise lessons, exhibitions and music of all kinds.

Booking the Hall: For more information about what the Hall has to offer as a venue see Hiring the Hall.

REFURBISHMENT NEWS: Work on our New Loos and Office is on schedule and the building work should be completed as planned, by Sunday 3rd September. Thanks to everyone* who has helped to make this project possible.

Our traditional Hall has an interesting history having been built in the 1910's originally as a Liberal Club; later becoming the Yarmouth Institute (a private members club); and in 2015 it was acquired for the whole community.

CHOYD is a registered charity run by trustees and supported by other volunteers. The object of the charity is "the provision and maintenance of a community hall for the use of the inhabitants of Yarmouth and district, without distinction of political, religious or other opinions, including use for: meetings, lectures and classes, and other forms of recreation and leisure-time occupation, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the inhabitants."

As funds become availablewe continuously improve and update the facilities. This includes: new central heating, wiring, windows and decorating. We have a brand new kitchen and improved toilet facilities, storage and office space. Our next target is the roof & ceiling repairs in the oldest part of the Hall, which we hope will free up more flexible space for events and activities that everyone can enjoy.

There are many regular activities (see the What’s On page) that everyone is welcome to attend.

Our bar is run by the volunteers at Eremue Trading Ltd. This company was set up by CHOYD and its surplus profits are donated to the charity.

Becoming a member: Although most of the events and activities are open to everybody, becoming a member is a way of showing your support, see Joining In to read about ways you can get involved.

* In addition to the practical effort of our hard-working volunteers, we are very grateful for the financial support we have received from: Yarmouth Town Council; Delphi Lakeman Memorial Trust; Herapath Shenton Trust and The Daisie Rich Trust; as well as many other generous donations including: Yarmouth One Design Association (Queen's Jubilee Regatta at the Royal Solent Yacht Club), Yarmouth Harbour Commissioners. Plus the organisers and attendees of CHOYD events (including our Music and Food Nights, Coffee Mornings and the regular Community Quiz), plus the anonymous donations and legacies.Thank You All!
